The word today, which is causing our world’s crisis, isnt debt, as you might have thought. It’s a word, that years ago, frighten many of my 60’s friends into walking the wild side!. It’s a word, used by some, as their banner of mediocrity. The word is RESPONSIBILITY!
In the 60’s that word was misrepresented. We were told, it meant, “respond to your ability”. That sounded good then. The only problem with that statement is, most folks then, seemed satisfied, with never testing how far their ability could go? They instead, became content with giving just what was required of them, and nothing more.
The word RESPONSIBILITY, when properly understood, is the only means in which a person’s life, becomes their own. It’s the only word, that enlightens a mans life to doing the best he can, in the worst of times.
There still seems to be two kinds of people. Those who embrace life, through accepting complete responsiblity, for all that enters their life, and those who don’t. Responsibility for those who see God in their own personal growth, willingly accept, whatever comes to them. Be it through perceived “injustice” , “unfairness”, or ” inequality”. They accept the word “responsiblity” not as a word that implies blame. But instead, as a word that gives them complete control of who they are, and enlightenment as to how they can respond. This word, if it were taken by everyone, would change the world!
I remember some friends in the 60’s, who complained about those around them smoking cigarettes. Yet saw nothing wrong, with their smoking pot! Two things wrong in that understanding. First, they saw nothing wrong with telling others what not to do. While never seeing, nor taking responsibility for their own actions. Somehow, they believed the smoke going into their lungs, was exempt from being “secondhand smoke”. Secondly, they somehow dismissed their smoke of choice, was illegal!
I see so many folks in the media today, expecting better from others, while never asking themselves to be better. They complain about what others do, while being a mirror to just what they claim they don’t like.
Responsibility, asks an individual, to put blinders on. To look to themselves, to be the change in the world, they wish to see. It’s the only word, that tells the universe, you have given yourself over to learning the lessons of life. It asks nothing from others, because it demands your complete attention. If something that at first seems bad, enters your life, instead of seeking to blame or search for a reason? One accepts it as a door, to a greater opportunity of self discovery!
In the 80’s we believe we were the greatest things since sliced bread! We wanted it all, and we got it! But what happened with our overly inflated egos was, a complete lack of personal responsibility! If it felt good, no matter who it might have hurt, we went for it! And that was the difference between, those who grew in God, and those who grew in greed!
We will never express the best of who we are, if we can’t take complete responsibility for all we do! Just look around you. Lawsuits abound, global financial crisis at every turn, a world that seems to have lost its way, and no one wants to take on a leadership role! Leadership, success and personal best, can only come to a person and or a Country, when we become completely responsible for our actions. It’s not a matter of looking back and placing blame. It’s a time where we claim as individuals, our place. It’s the exact time, to claim to be and give the best we have, in the most responsible way.
Its time, we stop looking to others to be responsible. Its time we don’t buy into being afraid. Its time we place full responsibility for the world we live in. Its time to stop placing blame on others, so that we point those fingers away from ourselves, towards the other guy. Its time we take back the only place we can place our trust. It’s in our being fully responsible for all we do and say, and be! For only then, can we claim the earth with the help of heaven!
